Court of King’s Bench La Ronge Presentation Ceremony
Sukhchain Singh, Morgan Blyth, Elise Burgert and Tyler Joorisity at the La Ronge Court of King's Bench Presentation Ceremony.
The Court of King’s Bench presentation ceremony for newly admitted lawyers took place in La Ronge on Friday, September 6, 2024. With friends and family attending both in person and via Webex, Morgan Blyth, Legal Aid Saskatchewan Staff Lawyer in the Northern Area Office, was introduced by Susan Ryan, Staff Lawyer in the Northern Area Office. The Honourable Chief Justice M.D. Popescul presided over the ceremony, which also included messages by The Honourable Judge M. Pelletier and Sarah Gryba from the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association.
Formally known as call to the bar, the Court explained the Presentation Ceremony as follows: “The name of the ceremony was changed to reflect the meaning behind the ceremony. Notably, the ceremony marks the introduction of the new lawyers to the Court of King’s Bench for Saskatchewan and marks the privilege to appear before the Court of King’s Bench. The ceremony has been a part of our legal history for hundreds of years. While the distinction between barristers and solicitors has been abolished in Canada, tradition has continuously required that all new lawyers be formally presented to the superior court. In addition, the ceremony provides an opportunity for each new lawyer to repeat the oath of office, publicly, before the Court and their friends and family.”
Congratulations, Morgan!
