Legal Aid Saskatchewan to Implement Immigration and Refugee Services in 2026

Pursuing Legal Aid Saskatchewan’s vision of inclusive, responsive, and equitable justice, and its values of compassion, collaboration, courage, and commitment, LAS retained a consultant to assess the need for federally funded immigration and refugee legal aid services.
The consultant’s report, Refugee and Immigration Services Situational Assessment, identifies a gap in service delivery that compromises access to justice for immigrants and refugees in Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission received and approved this report in September 2025. In November 2025, the federal government reviewed LAS’s business case and agreed to fund immigration and refugee services.
LAS has retained Jawad Kassab as project lead to support the development and implementation of legal aid-funded immigration and refugee services. LAS aims to launch these services in the summer of 2026.
LAS looks forward to working with existing service providers and community settlement agencies to increase access to justice in Saskatchewan for immigrants and refugees. LAS will seek advice from service providers and settlement agencies and keep the community regularly informed of the status of the project.
