College of Law Career Forum Sparks Interest in Opportunities at LAS for Students

January 19, 2026

During the recent University of Saskatchewan College of Law career forum, LAS was pleased to send representatives to promote the organization to students interested in legal aid work. Joanne Khan, Practice Management Counsel, attended the event alongside current articling students Rianne Kortko and Amy Bjarnason, as well as People and Culture Specialist Omonike Charles-Binitie. They noted strong student interest in Legal Aid Saskatchewan’s student programming, with Rianne and Amy happily sharing with their peers what a typical day looks like for articling students.

“The students were pleased to learn that we currently have seven articling students, with two more beginning later in January,” Joanne says.

In addition to learning more about the LAS articling program, attendees inquired about the summer student and child protection externship programs. Many students also expressed interest in working in rural communities through the rural externship opportunity offered in collaboration with the College of Law. Currently, LAS has two rural externship students and one child protection externship student. These opportunities have been well-received by both students and LAS mentors.

The LAS representatives are appreciative of the opportunity to interact with the students and presented attendees with a coaster featuring Indigenous artwork as a representation of Legal Aid Saskatchewan’s commitment towards reconciliation with Indigenous communities in the province.
