Advanced Child Protection Externship Prepares Future Advocate

February 26, 2026

The Advanced Child Protection Externship (ACPE) is an experiential opportunity for 3L students that builds on commitments between FSIN and the University of Saskatchewan College of Law as articulated in the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for dedicated research and education surrounding child protection. Amy Constant is the current ACPE student working with the Family Law and Mediation Services team in Saskatoon.

“I took part in the Indigenous Child Protection Practicum in my second year and have always wanted to work with Legal Aid Saskatchewan, so when there was a chance to expand on my experiences in the practicum by doing an externship with LAS I jumped at the opportunity,” she explains.

Working alongside LAS staff lawyers on family service matters is something for which Amy is grateful. “I came to law school with the goal of working with and uplifting Indigenous people and communities, and the work and experiences with Legal Aid Saskatchewan have helped me realize my goal.”

Amy’s goal while at Legal Aid Saskatchewan is to build on her real-world legal experience before starting her articles. “Whether it be sitting and observing FSM chambers or pretrial conferences, drafting affidavits, or helping clients fill out applications, I hope to take in every experience offered through the externship.”

Enjoy your experience with Legal Aid Saskatchewan, Amy!
