Immigration & Refugee Matters

Legal Aid Saskatchewan can help with some immigration and refugee legal matters if you have a low income and qualify for legal aid.

Starting on September 14, 2026, we can help if you are a refugee claimant and need assistance with:

  • a Basis of Claim (BOC) form
  • a refugee hearing
  • a humanitarian and compassionate application
  • a pre-removal risk assessment application

Starting in January 2027, we will also be able to help with:

  • refugee appeals
  • judicial reviews
  • detention review hearings
  • removal order appeals
  • stay of removal applications

We cannot help with:

  • family sponsorship
  • permanent residence applications
  • work, study or visitor permit renewals
  • checking your immigration application status
  • housing or health issues
